Simonized - Part 1

We're starting to see a little flurry of election activity. Mr. Simon Lono's website is up at simonlono.ca. Complete with a shopping cart feature that lets users buy Simon Lono merchandise. Shirts and hats with Simonize, or Simon-ution or something like that. Hardly catchy enough for me to break out the wallet. Ambitious if not a little conceited.

The first thing you may notice on Simon's site is that his logo flys the Newfoundland and Labrador Flag upside down?! Simon who prides himself on his academic attention to language and communications seems to have made a big faux-pas. The golden arrow which is meant to point to a prosperous future instead points to a prosperous past?! Holy smokes - does that mean things are going to get worse?! God help us all.

Of course if Simon is the media maniac he claims to be perhaps the upside flag was intensional. Flown upside down is the etiquette for a country in distress. Simon you old sleveen is that what you are going for? Of course if this is the hidden message it is still hard to shake the provocative image of an upside down flag for the patriotic purist.

The election machine makes frequent stops, but at the very least it should be aimed in the right direction.

roflmao.

If you take a look - and not really look all that closely - you'd have realized the flag isn't upside down or backwards.

It's exactly what a flag would look like as someone was speeding ahead.

Why not just get over your petty personal problems and try and make some constructive comments instead of slagging individuals from behind the cowardly close of pseudonymity.

The only thing you do is embarrass yourself.

Well that and give some of us endless entertainment.

You suggest I make constructive comments:

"petty personal problems"
"cowardly pseudonymity"
"you embarrass yourself"

These are all constructive in your book? These are not petty?

I know I've done something right when you make a guest appearance to try to put me down. Thanks.

The comments are an accurate description of your post based on experience.

Constructive would be the suggestion you stop the single-minded personal attacks on one candidate and offer some other commentary.

Constructive commentary would be that you publish under your own name, especially when making personal smears.

Constructive would be that you eliminate censorship, in the form of comment "moderation."

Want any more constructive suggestions?

1. Hardly a single minded attack on one candidate. Living in the city does make me more apt to comment on the candidates of the area. Also if you haven't noticed this is hardly a dump on Simon Blog. Others are in the queque which have nothing to do with your minion.

2. On point two - I do not post my name on the net. You know who I am, Simon knows who I am. I have had personal conversations with, Myles Higgins, Simon Lono, Peg Norman, Loyola Hearn, Ray Johnson, Harry Tucker, Siobhan Coady etc. I am meeting people for lunch, I met last night with the CLCC. I'd even had a coffee with you if you asked. Hardly a coward I prefer not to be an armchair quarterback. My reason for a pseudonom is that I have written critical articles about the seal hunt and I've received direct threats. Time for you to get over yourself with your self-righteousness.

3. Comment moderation is turned off.

There you go - don't say I don't listen to the advice of my most loyal readers.

Been threatened, have you?

By people not from here who have no likelihood of ever tracking you down and carrying out their cowardly musings?

Maybe you should try sticking your head up and having it attacked by people around here merely for defying the current orthodoxy.

I have no time for anonymous slags, pseudonyms or the sock puppets out there. Full stop.

oh yes, and when you continue with the attacks on Lono from other places and similar those of some of your associates, I'd say that made the whole thing pretty clear.

The flag wasn't backwards or upside down. You were reaching, just as Myles went for a long shot and fell off the cliff over Canada day.

I should call you last word Ed. As this blog is mine I think the last word is my own.

I have no trouble sticking my head up. There is no reason to subject my family to those cowardly musings. I post under a pseudonom, that my right and it is justifiable. I would suggest the privacy statements of most businesses lend credibility to my stance on that. You are welcome to differ on that opinion but it is just that, your opinion.

A critical stance given that you know full well who I am. Why don't you take your minion's suggestion and "drop my drawers to expose my forked tail".

You have a thorne in your backside about Myles - take that up with him.

Who else has used the flag with the golden arrow pointing to the past? Whether Mr. Lono has it streaming behind him or upside down the symbolism is wrong. The stretch is yours my buddy.
